Is this course suitable for me?

This course is suitable for you if you mainly work at one site, driving through consistent and mild off-road conditions, such as firm ground, established tracks and gentle slopes. We only train 2 delegates at a time, so you’re guaranteed a high level of attention from your instructor.

What will I learn?

The syllabus covers a full explanation and inspection of the vehicle, its specialist controls, and what it can (and can’t) do.

The practical driving element of the course includes:

  • Start/stop on gentle slopes

  • Hazard awareness

  • Correct use of controls

  • Securing the vehicle.

Where will the training happen?

We have two dedicated training grounds, one in the Scottish Highlands, the other at our centre in Buckinghamshire.

Can I bring my own vehicle?

We can train you in one of our many vehicles, or you can bring your own (subject to suitability).

BORDA Standard

Duration: One day

Number of delegates: 2 max

Is this course suitable for me?

This course is suitable if you drive in moderate, slippery and more challenging off-road conditions., This is our most popular course and covers most operators’ requirements. All successful candidates will receive a BORDA certificate and skills card, along with comprehensive course notes.

What will I learn?

The course opens with a briefing on four-wheel-drive systems followed by a demonstration drive from the instructor.

You will then be given the opportunity to drive the vehicle, taking turns with another trainee, and building on each experience to gain further confidence. The focus will be on improving your ability to assess different situations and handle the vehicle competently and safely. We’ll also explain what the vehicle can, and can’t do, so you can judge your vehicle’s suitability for different routes.
